Some form of the belief in reincarnation is widespread among North American Indian and Inuit societies. This trait list is organized in thirteen divisions, which correspond roughly to culture areas, and is accompanied by maps. Beliefs are coded for type of report, type of belief, signs used in recognizing reincarnations, beliefs concerning the reincarnation process, and related practices. References with page citations are given for all sets of codes.
